25 Paintings in 25 Days

Well this was just FUN!  I know, I was supposed to complete 30 in 30 but,
what can I say?  I was just happy to hear about the challenge, it was two days after it started and
I could have certainly caught up and kept planning to but it never happened.  I will now be extra challenged
to do all 30 next time.

Wow, I have established a pretty good habit.

This is what I painted for today, I needed to show the speed and drama and rush of a horse on the move.

Day 25  Lincoln's Rest
Mixed Media

This is that same old modest farm house where Abraham Lincoln came to rest after speaking in Leavenworth, Kansas.  This home was built in 1854. Lincoln's cousin who married Judge Mark Delaney invited Lincoln to come for a visit after his work was finished to rest.  I did this 7 X 7 watercolor with pastel to capture the moodiness of the weather and drama of the history.
Another time, I hope to paint this magnificent Silver Maple by the edge of the road  The Champion Tree
expert came to the house, took all the necessary measurements to conclude that although the trunk of the tree was nineteen feet around it was beat by another yet larger of it's type.
I never grow tired of speaking about that old wonderful farm house.

Day 22 ?

Day 25  Sky

30 Paintings in 30 Days

I  have been working hard to select the perfect inspiration for a painting for the Art Show and Exhibition;
Symphony in the Flint Hills~ I took this photograph in which I painted this SKY from and from that I will produce my entry.  The sky is only the backdrop to the rolling buttes and cliffs and run away horses that I plan to add.  Wish me luck in getting selected.
Day 24  Daniel     30 Paintings in 30 Days

I have the great opportunity of a life time to paint at the home of my friends' home Adam and Andrea Clague.  We hire a model and set up and paint every Thursday evening.  My life's ambition is to become the best portrait artist that I am capable of.  The setting is ideal, the mood is intoxicating and the evening is blessed first by the prayers of Adam and only second to the JOY!  Oh how I do love this experience.

Day 16 perhaps?  I need to check...lost count.

'Flint Rocks at Sunset'

It is so much fun to do these 30 in 30 paintings...you just decide on a subject and head for the easel.

Another daily painting, however they are all out of order...this is from the Flint Hills region, trying to decide which one to paint huge.  ???   Not enough days in the week to paint every thing I want to paint.

No Idea which day this is?

 'Old Bridge'

This is another image from the Flint Hills.  This old bridge simply dissolved with time. I liked several view points of it, and painted it traditionally.  I will do a few more soon.  Stay tuned.

Day Three

I am experimenting with Flint Hills area work...I have a fast approaching deadline for Symphony in the Flint Hills in Western Kansas.  So, I've been studying all of my images to make a decision on my favorite one to work from....Very Hard Decision!!!

Today is a busy day, The Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art is hosting the Missouri Valley Impressionist Society's Third Annual Member Show.   I am very pleased that they chose one of my paintings to post in the St. Joseph News.
This morning I knew I needed to paint something that would go quickly to have time to get to the show.
I chose this morning view of this spot that grabbed my eye on the highway.  I drove back to the scene and photographed these hills of shadows and winter color.  The greens and reds and purples with the vivid cerulean sky was beautiful.  Did I capture it?

                                                                         Day 16

Day One  Main street Parkville   a palette knife technique which was a commission for the store owner

Graphite of Abraham Lincoln.  8 X 10.  We helped my son rehab an old farmhouse in Tonganoxie, Kansas.
Lincoln's cousin lived there with her family and after Lincoln gave four speeches running for the presidency in Leavenworth, Kansas; came there to spend a few days.  The stone column in the yard had a bronze plaque on top which declared the property; 'Lincoln's Rest.'  I naturally have a tender place in my heart for our 16th president as do most Americans.
To stand in the house and realize that he too walked and spoke in those rooms never failed to impress.
A little water-color 'Autumn Touch'

Autumn Watercolor
I have done very little watercolor besides greeting cards and preliminary 'mock ups' for Mural projects so yesterday morning before Church, I wanted to squeeeeze in one.
This is from my little photographic journey with my friend Darla Zook who is a master water-colorist.
No one can ever say that I don't have nerve or moxie.  The way I look at it, well yes, that's the way I paint.
Loose, soft and orange.  See what you think.

Day number 10 in my Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days with respected artist Leslie Saeta.  www.lestliesaeta.blogspot.com
This is the portrait of 'Mouse' an incredible working breed dog.  I thought he would make a good subject for a high contrast pattern piece to paint.  A little Yen and Yang work.  I wanted to push it a bit.
Hope you like.
