CAIN  at the Louvre.  Cain had just killed Able, his remorse is evident.  I could not help but want to capture the anguish in stone as a painting.  I walked around the pool and observed the huge lion with his cub in his mouth.  I observed the sun bathers reading and napping around the water but I returned to Cain who had already touched  my heart.

Plein Air in France

Currently these paintings are on display at Parkville Frame Gallery in the Commmons off of Hwy 9 and Hwy 45 in Parkville.  Next door to the South of Nick and Jakes.  Then the show will travel to Images Gallery in Overland Park and be on display with the works from my travel mates.

All in a day's work

I filled in my calendar and now it is the next month already.  Shoot, I like other artists have a tough time of organizing my time.  I vow to get better.  New Year's resolution yeah right.  I do feel an urgency however to get more organized.
Thank heaven, my dear friend Darla Zook, fellow artist reminded me of today's hanging in the Lenexa Kansas City Hall.  Talk about a curve ball, I thought I would spend the day working on my blog and starting a Cafe' genre painting, then teaching.  But no.  So off I go to my studio to put finishing touches on Music from the Vine then delivering the work....What a life!  I love it!!!

Serenade

During the First Parkville in Art Paint Out, I painted this from Pancho's Mexican Restaurant.

This Commissioned Graphite is actually 18 X 24.

Here I am painting in Door County.  I very quickly found out that my umbrella shaded me beautifully, but not built to protect me from the rain.  This is a gallery that had sculptures around the gardens and quite unique.

Gary in his studio.

Gary Staab is one of the Artists that I wrote about in North magazine.  Gary is a sculptor who has an interest in animals and insects.  Gary recreated Lucy.  The lifesize dinosaur.  Recently, my editor and friend, Kandie Erichson and I made the trip to Liberty to visit with Gary to deliver this framed work of the article I wrote about him.  He was in the middle of recreating a twenty foot Saw Fish.

Visit www.ilivenorth.com and read about Gary as well as all the other artists I have had the priviledge to cover.

I could have certainly caught up and kept planning to but it never happened.  I will now be extra challenged
to do all 30 next time.

Day 25  Lincoln's Rest
Mixed Media

This is that same old modest farm house where Abraham Lincoln came to rest after speaking in Leavenworth, Kansas.  This home was built in 1854. Lincoln's cousin who married Judge Mark Delaney invited Lincoln to come for a visit after his work was finished to rest.  I did this 7 X 7 watercolor with pastel to capture the moodiness of the weather and drama of the history.
Another time, I hope to paint this magnificent Silver Maple by the edge of the road  The Champion Tree
expert came to the house, took all the necessary measurements to conclude that although the trunk of the tree was nineteen feet around it was beat by another yet larger of it's type.
I never grow tired of speaking about that old wonderful farm house.

Day 22 ?

Day 25  Sky

30 Paintings in 30 Days

I  have been working hard to select the perfect inspiration for a painting for the Art Show and Exhibition;
Symphony in the Flint Hills~ I took this photograph in which I painted this SKY from and from that I will produce my entry.  The sky is only the backdrop to the rolling buttes and cliffs and run away horses that I plan to add.  Wish me luck in getting selected.
Day 24  Daniel     30 Paintings in 30 Days

I have the great opportunity of a life time to paint at the home of my friends' home Adam and Andrea Clague.  We hire a model and set up and paint every Thursday evening.  My life's ambition is to become the best portrait artist that I am capable of.  The setting is ideal, the mood is intoxicating and the evening is blessed first by the prayers of Adam and only second to the JOY!  Oh how I do love this experience.
